Second man seriously injured after incident at Ipswich docks

A man has died and another was left with serious injuries after apparently being crushed at Ipswich docks on Friday evening.

Emergency services were called to the docks just before 6pm after a report that two men were being crushed by what appeared to be a section of floating pontoon, Suffolk police said.

A spokeswoman said police, the fire service and ambulance service attended. "A man has been declared deceased at the scene and a second man has been taken to Ipswich Hospital with serious injuries.

"The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and police will be carrying out a joint inquiry with the HSE to establish what has happened."

The accident happened at Cliff Road, Ipswich, police said.

A spokesman for East of England Ambulance Service said two ambulances and a fast response car were called to the scene at 5.57pm.
