Cobalt hips | Senior police at Leveson inquiry | JB Priestley in Deal | Collapsed football clubs
• A piece about concerns over all-metal hip implants – 50,000 face health checks over hip replacements, 29 February, page 4 – incorrectly spoke of claims that toxic cadmium ions can be shed through wear between the ball and socket of a metal on metal hip replacement. It should have said cobalt ions (still toxic, but less so). With the same article, a small x-ray of a hip joint showed a metal on plastic replacement instead of a relevant all-metal example.
• A sketch said that three London police chiefs who gave evidence to Lord Justice Leveson's phone-hacking inquiry on 1 March had "all prematurely retired through professional mishap". It should have said that two out of three left early for this reason (Michelin guide to anti-terrorism, 2 March, page 9).
• An item in this column, 23 February, page 37, said that JB Priestley wrote the Good Companions in Deal in 1929. It was, in fact, in 1928. The book was published in 1929.
• A piece about football clubs going into administration was wrong to include Fulham as an example of a failed club. Although Fulham did come close to financial collapse in 1987, it did not enter administration (Why we're all paying for football's dream, 16 February, page 2, G2).
