• Pair banned for four and three games respectively
• Sunderland receive offer for Asamoah Gyan

Stéphane Sessègnon and Lee Cattermole will miss Sunderland's FA Cup sixth-round tie at Everton this month after being given three- and four-match suspensions respectively after their sendings-off in Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby.

Cattermole was shown a straight red card for foul and abusive language towards Mike Dean, the referee, shortly after the final whistle. That offence carries an automatic two-match ban but two more were added as an early foul on Newcastle's Cheik Tioté saw Cattermole collect a 10th booking of the season. Sessègnon received a three-game ban for elbowing Tioté in the throat.

Both players will miss the quarter-final as well as Premier League fixtures against Liverpool and Blackburn. Cattermole will also sit out the QPR game on 24 March.

Sunderland have received a bid from an unamed Qatari club for their £13m Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan, who is on a season's loan in the United Arab Emirates with Al-Ain. Gyan, who is also wanted permanently by Al-Ain as well as other clubs, has two years remaining on his contract at the Stadium of Light. Martin O'Neill, Sunderland's manager, is expected to hold talks with him shortly.
