Israeli prime minister Netanyahu has made it clear Israel is preparing for war on Iran (Report, 6 March). President Obama was clear, too, that the US is ready to use force against Iran. The increasingly strident tone of the weapons inspectors, tightening sanctions and the open threats of an attack are all terrifyingly reminiscent of the buildup to war on Iraq. An attack on Iran would risk a conflagration across the region. We support Stop the War Coalition's launch of the Don't Attack Iran campaign.

• Having written a piece of music based on the sinking of the Titanic, I might perhaps be lumped with the Titanoraks (Pass notes, G2, 5 March). Inevitably this 1969 piece is being performed several times this year. Recently a young Belgian composer contacted me to ask if his composition on the subject might be performed alongside mine in his country. His piece is written from the point of view of the iceberg.

• Re Three Little Pigs found guilty (Letters, 1 March): had the jury been informed of Wolf's previous conviction for impersonation of the missing Widow Hood, and attempted attack on her grandaughter Miss RR Hood, perhaps the result of the trial would have been different. Is it not time we reconsidered this archaic practice of keeping a jury in ignorance, even to the point of punishing members who try to do research?

• How about a mention for Liam Kearney who played with such flair and distinction for Cork City FC (Sporting roots, 6 March) known – after the north Cork village from which he hailed – as the Conna Maradona.
