Celebrated architect had indulged a boy's plea for a doghouse in 1956 to match family home, it is rebuilt now using original plans

Frank Lloyd Wright designed hundreds of buildings during a prolific career. But in 1956 he indulged a boy's plea for a doghouse to match the family's Wright-designed home in San Anselmo, California – and sent designs. Jim Berger, now 68, rebuilt the kennel last year using the plans and it now features in a documentary. "A 12-year-old kid having the chutzpah to write a letter to the greatest architect of all time and having him design something as modest as a doghouse … I just knew it was a great story," said Michael Miner, director of Romanza, to be shown in screenings starting this month.
