One man is rescued after trawler sinks off the west coast of Cork
The Irish coastguard and naval service are planning to resume their search on Monday for five missing seamen whose trawler sank off the west coast of county Cork on Sunday morning.
Four Egyptian crew members, a young Irish man on his first sea fishing trip and their Irish skipper were on board the Bonhomme when it got into difficulty on Sunday.
Gerard O'Flynn, from the Irish coastguard, said a sea and inshore search was planned for Monday and that gardaí and Irish navy divers would also be involved if the weather was suitable. He said it had not been possible for diving searches to take place on Sunday due to rough seas.
O'Flynn also described the experience of one of the Egyptian men who was rescued.
"He managed to get ashore himself, he was located by a volunteer coastguard team on the rocks very close to where the boat foundered.
"He was immediately transferred by coastguard helicopter to Cork University hospital. He is in pretty good condition given what he went through."
